We know many of our guests come here to escape from the ‘everyday’ and spend quality time together as a couple. With such beautiful surroundings, it seems unthinkable not to visit the Lake District without going on a walk so we’ve listed some walks that take in some breath-taking views but are also easy to follow…an important one as getting lost could spoil the romance!
Gummers How from Cartmel Fell Circular
Start the walk at The Mason Arms in Cartmel Fell (LA11 6NW). Take the road to the right of the pub and follow the road up to the end and then take a sharp left following that road up to a T-junction.
Turn right and carry on the road for 1.5 miles until you see a gate on your right-hand side signposted Gummers How. Follow the path up to the top (there is a little bit of scrambling involved) and enjoy the wonderful views across Lake Windermere.
When you’re ready to come down, follow your route back down to the gate, turn left out of the gate and follow the road for almost 2 miles until you reach The Mason Arms which will be on your left-hand side.
A short 4-mile walk, enjoy lunch and a G&T or local ale in the pub. We can highly recommend the Venison burger!
Ambleside to High Sweden Bridge Circular
Another easy walk and one popular with those that are planning to ‘pop the question’ is a circular walk from Ambleside that takes in High Sweden Bridge. On this short 3 mile walk, you’ll also be treated to some fantastic views of Grasmere, Rydal and Ambleside.
Thanks to GoLakes for sharing this walk, details of which can be found by clicking this link.
Wansfell from Troutbeck Circular
We couldn’t feature a list of walks without showcasing one that can be started right here at Broadoaks Country House. By taking a walk up Wansfell from Troutbeck you’ll be treated to some incredible views of Lake Windermere.
Another short walk you could set off after a leisurely breakfast and be back to join us for Afternoon Tea.
For details of the walk, we hand over to Where2Walk – http://where2walk.co.uk/lake_district/easy_fells/wansfell-from-troutbeck/
