One of the loveliest things about getting married at Broadoaks Country House in the Lake District is hearing the engagement stories of our couples, many of which also got engaged in beautiful Lakeland!
The Lake District is an exceptional and romantic place to get engaged to the one you love. With amazing scenery and a friendly welcome, it’s one of the top natural tourist destinations in the world, so it is no wonder it is such a popular place to pop the question!
Whether you want to propose on the shores of Lake Windermere or climb to the top of Scafell Pike before asking the big question, there are plenty of options for today’s romantic couples!
Here are just some of our favourite locations to pop the question.
A Stroll on the Beach
While it’s famous for its wonderful lakes, you may want to head west a little way and plan your engagement on the nearby beaches. There are some lovely locations to choose from such as Ravenglass, Haverigg, and St Bees, all of which have their own charm.
With the sun setting in the west, a romantic stroll in the late afternoon or evening can be the perfect way to ask for your loved one’s hand in marriage.
Starlit Nights
One thing the Lake District is famous for is its starry evenings. With many areas free of light pollution, you can get a real feel for the cosmos in all its enormity and there are plenty of locations to choose from. You can see stars from pretty much anywhere in the Lakes, but Grizedale forest is one of the best and clearest places to see the Milky Way, especially in the winter!
Atop A Fell
Many couples choose a location overlooking the Lake District for a memorable place to get engaged, whether on their own or in a group. Scafell Pike, one of the most iconic locations in the region, is probably the more popular choice. But there are lots of other spots including the Old Man of Coniston and Skiddaw. While these locations involve a good bit of climbing, the views you can enjoy are impressive, to say the least.
Amazing Waterfalls
Waterfalls are always romantic and they’re a favourite for newly engaged couples in the Lake District. Ashgill Force and Cautley Sprout are quite popular, and they’re perfect any time of year.
While summer and autumn have their appeal, visiting a waterfall during the wintertime when there’s snow on the ground is absolutely magical and well worth thinking about.
Hire a Boat
With glasslike, blue waters, hiring a small boat and heading out onto the lakes is another great option for couples. Not only do you get some peace and can enjoy each other’s company, the views are spectacular all through the year – you also get to avoid all the crowds, especially during the summer.
A Lakeside Engagement
Of course, one of the more popular choices is a lakeside engagement party. There are plenty of different bars and restaurants that are happy to host occasions such as this. A small gathering at the lakeside is much more intimate, however, and there are many isolated spots away from the tourists that you can choose from.
The Lake District is popular both for engagements and weddings and there’s nothing better than a gentle stroll along a beach or lakeside for adding a bit of extra romance. We have even had proposals in the gorgeous grounds of Broadoaks, and the couples then come back to us for their wedding! We love being your special place in the Lakes!
