What is the Best Season to Get Married in the Lake District?

Jan 11, 2021 | Wedding Tips

The Lake District looks beautiful all year round and makes a beautiful setting for a wedding no matter what the weather.  Broadoaks Country House is the perfect setting for your special day whatever the time of year. However, thinking about the seasons can help you to plan your theme, so  here we explore what the Lake District has to offer in spring, summer, autumn, and winter?

Spring Weddings in the Lake District

Springtime weddings are great as they can represent new beginnings as new life begins to bloom. Daffodils, bluebells, and wildflowers will burst into life at this time of the year, so you can expect stunning scenery – perfect for photos, especially in the beautiful grounds of Broadoaks.

Spring flowers at your wedding reception and in your bouquet make the most of the scenery around you, think bluebells and of course the daffodil, synonymous with Wordsworth and the Lakes. Remember that in Spring, April showers can happen so it’s worth being prepared for all eventualities, great for those who like to be a little quirky and include wellington boots under their wedding dresses!

April and May are ideal for making the most of spring flowers. You may be able to take advantage of the bank holidays in May, too. Fortunately, Broadoaks has a range of both indoor and outdoor options for your wedding day, flexibility is key!

Summer Weddings in the Lake District

If you really want to make the most of the Lakes, a summer wedding could be the best time to do it. Longer, warmer days make for perfect outdoor events, from a picnic to a BBQ in the beautiful Broadoaks grounds makes for a real summery feel. The gorgeous green background of the Lake District will be the backdrop to your special day and if you want some sunset photos or want to get out on Windermere for a cruise, this is probably the best time to get gorgeous lakeside photos.

Summer weddings are very popular, and so, venues like Broadoaks get booked up quickly. Forward planning is needed so you can secure the dates of your choice. If you want to avoid some of the busiest season, go for earlier in June. Late July and August do tend to get very busy but offer long, warm days for outdoor weddings.

Autumn Weddings in the Lake District

Autumn may be cooler, but it offers some of the most spectacular scenery. If your venue allows for it, you can take your guests outdoors to enjoy the blazing golden, red, and orange leaves. Sunny, crisp days are a possibility, and you can capture some spectacularly beautiful photographs at this time of the year. Autumn also has some great celebrations, Halloween and Bonfire Night are popular times to get married and, as the whole of Broadoaks is yours for the duration of your wedding if you book exclusively, you can decorate and theme as much as you want.

September is a popular month to get married, so make sure you book as early as possible, October is also great for an autumnal wedding as you can incorporate elements like pumpkins into your décor. November is perfect for fireworks for your evening entertainment, and Broadoaks work closely with local fireworks suppliers who know our venue and layout well.

Winter Weddings in the Lake District

Finally, you could consider a winter wedding. If the idea of frosty landscapes, warm crackling fires, and twinkly fairy lights appeals to you, this is the time to do it. A December wedding can create fabulous memories for you and your guests, and you can make the most of the decorations already available at the wedding venue, like Christmas trees and lights. We have a special winter wonderland wedding package featured in our brochure. As the Lake District landscape is more sombre and often smattered with snow for those who want to wear colourful wedding dresses, reds and greens really pop for winter photos.

Go for December if you love a Christmas theme, or choose January or February for a chance of snow.
