Top Wedding Trends for 2020
Category: Wedding Tips Date: 24th November 2019
Are you getting married in 2020 or 2021? If so, the big day will be fast approaching. As a wedding venue in the Lake District we love to host wedding celebrations and because we see lots of weddings, we are great at spotting trends as they start to emerge. Every wedding is unique and that is the way it should be, and Broadoaks Country House in Windermere is flexible enough to accommodate any size or theme of wedding big or small. So, from eco-friendly weddings to princess-inspired gowns, we’ve gathered some of the biggest trends you can expect to see into the not too distant future.
Make it Personal
According to Vogue, the biggest trend you can expect to see in 2020 is personalisation. Couples are choosing to make every little detail meaningful and special to them. Here, you can go all out: want your dog to walk down the aisle with you? Or make your bouquet using flowers from your Grandma’s garden? Now’s the time to do it.
Back to Nature
You can expect couples to go for a more natural, relaxed vibe when it comes to decorations. You will see floral arrangements with a lot of greenery, perhaps using flowers that are locally grown – this not only makes the wedding eco-friendly, but also makes it personal for the couple. Because our beautiful wedding hotel is based in the centre of the Lake District, getting back to nature is an very easy one for us to help our couples with!
Also, due to the worldwide helium shortage, many brides will be opting for more natural decorations to avoid the rising cost of balloon displays. Instead, you’ll find wildflowers, greenery, and even the use of fruit in displays.
Call this the Meghan Markle effect. Over a year and a half later, the royal wedding is still making waves in the wedding industry, with many brides falling in love with the princess look. You can expect to see a lot of high necklines, as well as clean, sophisticated dress designs. Strapless dresses have fallen out of favour, with many preferring longer sleeves.
You can also expect to see a return of floor-length veils. Embroidery will be a key feature (again, thanks to Duchess Meghan’s beautifully personalised veil). Many brides will be opting for similarly detailed veils with custom embroidery.
You might find some brides opting for a second gown for the evening reception, too.
With climate change and sustainability on everybody’s mind, many couples will be looking at making their wedding as eco-friendly as possible, with a lot of focus on cutting out plastic waste and using locally grown produce.
Cake making can be an art form, and weddings are a great way to showcase local talent. Many brides will be looking for interesting, beautiful cakes that not only look great, but taste amazing, too. You can expect to see more unusual flavours in 2020, like earl grey or gin flavoured sponge cakes.
Good news if you’re vegan or vegetarian – you can no longer expect to be stuck with a nut roast or mushroom risotto for dinner! Couples are incorporating more vegan food into their wedding menus, and you can expect to see less formal sit-down dinners, and more buffet-style food, for a more relaxed vibe.
In a nutshell …
Those are the main wedding trends you can expect to see in 2020: a lot of focus on sustainability and personalisation.
