The Lake District is beautiful at any time of year and each season brings with it its own benefits and small challenges. Winter weddings can be truly magical, and in the majesty of the Lake District even more so but having a winter wedding does mean there are a few extra planning tips you should think about.

Lake District Winter Wedding Magic

The team at Broadoaks can bring your wedding vision into reality at any time of year and winter is no exception. Snow capped fells and winter trees make for a stunning backdrop to your wedding and the local churches can look magical in the winter sun. Winter also affords you to decorate our stunning Lake District Country Hotel in any theme you wish including evergreens, soft candles and twinkling fairy lights.

Here are a few things to put into your wedding checklist so your winter wedding is a perfect as you imagine it to be:

Wrap up for colder weather – While the inside of our beautiful hotel will be warm and cosy, the outdoors can be chilly in the winter months so dressing accordingly with warmer accessories is a great idea. Velvet of faux fur wraps are practical and look beautiful and seasonal, a change of shoes and may be required if you plan on having lots of outdoor photographs. For the boys, thicker fabric suits will keep them warm without the need for a coat. Thermal underwear for you or your guests can also be a great option if you know you want lots of outside photographs.

Practical Venue Tips – As the weather may be changeable for a Lake District winter wedding consider having your ceremony and reception in the same place. The house and grounds at Broadoaks are a perfect option as you can stay, be married and have your reception all in the comfort of our Lake District hotel.

Consider Timing – Remember that in the winter the sun sets sooner, use this to your advantage by having a later ceremony with flickering lights ending with sparklers in the grounds and perhaps early evening fireworks to get your evening do started with a bang!

Keep Your Guests Warm – Ensuring your guests are well looked after is what we do at Broadoaks, but perhaps mention in the invitation about the weather and to bring a warm wrap or heavier jacker with them. You could also consider serving warm spiced drinks instead of more traditional champagne as a unique nod to your winter style. Hand warmers and umbrellas available at the entrance is also a great idea to keep your guests warm.

Season your Favours – Winter has an abundance of options for little favours for your guests, consider giving each guest a lake District blanket, or a pack of mulled spices to take home and toast your wedding, winter cookies with a small bottle of bailey are also cute ideas for winter wedding favours.
