Winter is picture perfect!  Snow, magic, warming, a truly fairy tale time of year.

For better or worse a combination of Christmas and Weddings has more in common than you initially think.  Have the opportunity to share time over scrumptious food with friends and family; mixed with a time of high emotions.  A Christmas Wedding has in recent years grown in popularity and we are not surprised. There is a lot to consider before jumping into the winter bride club!

Lake District Weddings

We weigh up for the pros and cons of a Christmas wedding, so you don’t have to:

Christmas Wedding Pros

Venue Choice: As Summer months are considered the most popular months to get wed you should have no problems finding the perfect venue. This also means that your guests may be more likely to attend as they are not at another wedding or on a summer holiday.

More Supplier Options:  Caterers, florists, photographers and other key suppliers are likely to be available in December; you may be able to get a cheap booking.  Suppliers often will lower their price as they would much rather be working than not.

Darker Nights: If you have always dreamed of a candle lit wedding reception, or fairy lights twinkling as you say I do, or even fireworks after the reception then the darker nights in winter are a positive for you.

Beautiful Backdrop: A dusting of snow can make a huge difference to any photo.  A touch of light against a white snowy background oozes romance.  The Lake District is truly beautiful in December, especially if there is a dusting of snow.

Christmas Wedding Cons

Floral Choices: Admittedly a florist will be able to get their hands on nearly any type of flower all year round at a cost! Choosing winter flowers is more limited at this time of year but not impossible. Perhaps choosing evergreen bouquets with just a few winter roses instead.

Too Christmassy: There is always a possibility that Christmas can overpower your theme. There is a fear that Christmas can take over your theme.  You may struggle to find alternative themes this time of year.  Shops are filled with red and greens and all things festive.  Fantastic but you may not want a Christmas themed wedding.

Guest Restrictions: Your guests may already have plans for their Christmas holidays, and if you choose to have your wedding very close to December 25th may have work and family commitments that they may not be able to detach themselves from.

Winter Weather: The weather in winter is unpredictable so choose a wedding venue like Broadoaks Country House in the Lake District which is warm and cosy inside with picture perfect views of the grounds from the windows.

Dress for the Occasion: As the weather will be cool, and possibly wet ensure you and the wedding party have warm jackets, stole’s or cloaks to snuggle into throughout the day.
