Nov 16, 2017 | Wedding Tips

While a summer wedding is certainly a wonderful thing, many people simply do not consider a winter wedding. They are that little bit less common, but in fact, a winter wedding can be simply magical, as we have seen many times right here at Broadoaks.

To give you a little something to think about as we do head into the colder months, here at 5 reasons you should consider opting for a winter wonderland wedding.

If you are in the beginning stages of planning your wedding, you may be looking to the summer months when thinking about setting the date.

Now that the days of summer are officially behind us and we are all trying to get used to autumn, many will be wishing away the months in dismay at the increased number of rainy days, keen for those balmy summer evenings once again.

But while a summer wedding is certainly a wonderful thing, many people simply do not consider a winter wedding. They are that little bit less common, but in fact, a winter wedding can be simply magical, as we have seen many times right here at Broadoaks Wedding Venue in the Lake District.

To give you a little something to think about as we do head into the colder months, here at 5 reasons you should consider opting for a winter wonderland wedding.

The cost

As winter weddings are less in demand than summer bashes this means that typically vendors such as photographers, planners and venues tend to drop their prices a little.

You may find that you can afford that little bit more luxury and hire that photographer you thought would be outside of your budget as they become more affordable outside of peak season.

This might mean you can stretch your budget a little bit further, splash out on something really special, or simply have a cheaper wedding overall!

The festive feel

While most of us roll our eyes when the supermarkets start putting out Christmas fare before we’ve even reached Halloween, there’s no denying that we also feel a little excited, too.

Winter is a truly romantic time of year, with cosy blankets, crackling fires and mulled wine to be enjoyed. Everything from weekends away to simple evenings curled up on the sofa at home just feels that little bit more romantic when it’s chilly outside and you have somebody you really love to cuddle up to.

Whether or not your big day ends up being close to Christmas, once winter arrives there is already a sense of excitement and anticipation in the air, making it the perfect time to have such a special day.

The colour schemes

Perhaps you aren’t a couple who love bright summery colours, or the thought of a pastel spring theme simply doesn’t speak to you at all.

Of course, you can choose any colour scheme you like no matter what time of year it is, but the darker colder months lend themselves perfectly to reds, greens and purples, to name a few. If you need a little bit of inspiration, we love these colour scheme ideas from Shutterfly.

Originality

One of the great things about having a winter wedding is that your wedding will really stand out. With the popularity of summer weddings meaning we often attend several weddings in the space of a couple of months, by having a winter do instead you avoid everybody feeling somewhat partied out. It is fun to be able to offer your guests something a little bit different!

Availability

During peak wedding season you may find yourself having to compromise as your first choices for vendors may not all be available at the same time, making picking a date a tricky business, but in the winter time, this becomes a little bit less of an issue.

You may still not be able to tie down every single one of your first choice vendors, but your chances will certainly be increased!

We hope that this has given you a few reasons to consider having a magical wedding in the winter time, or helped a little if you have been having difficulty deciding on a time of year to set the date. Be sure to check out our fantastic wedding packages here at Broadoaks if you haven’t already!
