Ceremony Locations
Licensed Areas at Broadoaks
In England, each area where weddings are held must have its own license and for this reason only designated ‘Wedding’ locations can be used to hold the ceremony. All ceremonies at Broadoaks would be performed by a registrar and this style of ceremony is often referred to as a civil ceremony.
Like religious ceremonies weddings performed in this way are very special however the main difference is that these ceremonies do not and cannot involve any religious elements. If a religious ceremony is important to you then please refer to the local churches section below.
Here at Broadoaks we have the following areas available for your civil ceremony:
Outdoor
1. The Upper Lawn at Broadoaks (max capacity 80)
The upper lawn at Broadoaks has amazing views across to lake Windermere in the distance as well as the surrounding valleys. This fine green is our grounds man David’s pride and joy (although he does get a little distressed when helicopters land on it!)

2. Marquees on the lower lawn (max capacity 120)
If you are interested in having your wedding in a Marquee then we are able to offer this option on one of our lower greens.
Indoor
1. The William Morris Music Room at Broadoaks (max capacity 60)

2. Oaks room at Broadoaks (max capacity 80)
The Oaks room at Broadoaks is a beautifully decorated room that is used during standard service as our dining room. The room boasts original Victorian high ceilings with traditional mouldings and has a beautiful fireplace at one end of the room. The room looks out onto the surrounding green valley as well as the fast flowing beck that runs from the village of Troutbeck heading to Windermere.

Notes:
Whilst a preference for an outdoor wedding can be made, we will always agree an alternative Plan B for the day just in case the weather is not as good as we all hoped.
Don’t forget to check availability by contacting the registrar before confirming your wedding dates: Local Registrar - Sue Oliver, Tel: 01539 713 567 Cumbria County Council Wedding Website
Local Churches for Religious Ceremonies
For religious ceremonies there are several local churches where your ceremony could be arranged. Whilst you would still need to contact the local registrar to arrange the paperwork for your wedding, you would also need to speak to the church direct to arrange the wedding service for the day.
Couples wishing to hold their wedding at one of the local churches are likely to require transport from the hotel to the church. We have a range of useful contacts for this which can be found under the ‘plan your wedding’ section of the website.

The music room at Broadoaks is a beautiful room that oozes charm and character, build onto the house in 1905 as a music room for old Dr Charles it boasts a vaulted ceiling and traditional oak panelled walls. For weddings the furniture can be moved about to create a mini aisle, the baby grand in the corner of the room can also be used by our local pianist to fill the room with music for a grand entrance.
