This UNESCO world heritage site is without a doubt one of the most romantic spots in the whole of the UK, and if you need any more persuading, here are just ten reasons why you should book a romantic break and experience it for yourself!

There’s an abundance of romantic walks

One of the nicest things to do with somebody you love is to go for a walk, and the Lake District is one of the best places that you could choose to do so.

There are a great many walks through some of the most picturesque and peaceful landscapes in the country. There’s something for everybody, from gentle lakeside strolls to scaling the tallest peaks, and the Walk Lakes website helpfully rates their routes according to difficulty.

It inspired the poets

The area was much loved by great romantic poets such as William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge, and you can visit Dove Cottage which was Wordsworth’s first family home, and the Wordsworth Museum next door. A perfect romantic day out!

You can cruise around Lake Windermere

Lake Windermere is England’s largest lake, and it’s perfect for a romantic day out on the waters. You can choose between a number of different cruises around the lake taking in the stunning views, and even stop off at some of the local attractions along the way!

You can recharge together

If you and your loved one are eager to take some time out from the hustle and bustle of daily life, there is no better place to do so than the Lake District.

Here at Broadoaks, we have teamed up with Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa, a mere 5 minutes away, where you can truly relax and unwind together.

It’s a foodie heaven

On top of that, the Lake District is home to a number of Michelin-starred restaurants, as well as some wonderful pubs and cafes. This roundup from the Telegraph may give you a few ideas if you’re looking for somewhere wonderful to eat!

You can try something new together

For a bit of an adventure, why not try a new activity together during your romantic break? There is plenty to choose from, with Rookin House offering horse riding, quad biking, fishing, archery, and a great many different fun activities.

If you’re both lovers of the outdoors and somewhat fearless, you could even take on the Via Ferrata at Honister, which uses the original miners track up Fleetwith Pike, and is certainly not for the faint of heart.

Visit some museums

Besides Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum, there are also a great many more wonderful museums to visit in the Lake District.

A fun one to visit as a couple is The Puzzling Place, which is full of puzzles, optical illusions, and many more fascinating and fun things to give your brain a bit of a workout.

Lovers of arts and crafts might enjoy a trip to Blackwell, which puts on exhibitions and displays, as well as events, and even has a tea room.

Head to the theatre

A trip to the theatre is the perfect activity for a romantic evening, and Keswick is home to the Theatre by the Lake. The theatre not only puts on wonderful productions, but is also situated by Derwentwater, and has been hailed as “the most beautifully located and friendly theatre in Britain”, so it’s well worth a visit.
